CONSUMERS REPORT REVIEW: REPRINT
2014 Nissan Rogue adds refinement and boosts fuel economy.

Nissan’s redesigned 2014 Rogue is a major upgrade over the outgoing model, which will remain on sale for now as the Rogue Select. Based on our initial experience, the new Rogue is the nicest redesign Nissan has done in years. That’s a good thing, as the Rogue is Nissan’s second-largest selling model, and redesigns have been a challenge for the automaker, as exemplified by the Nissan Sentra, Nissan Versa, and Infiniti Q50.

The new 2014 Nissan Rogue is larger, with a comfortable and spacious rear seat, and an available third-row for wee children—a rarity in a small SUV.
The hushed interior lends the Rogue a sense of refinement, marred only slightly by the engine whining under acceleration, when the continuously variable transmission (CVT) allows the engine revs to soar. As before, the 170-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine isn’t the smoothest, but it’s unobtrusive in normal driving. That said, this CVT is more palatable than most. It doesn’t flare out as much as others, and brings the revs back under control relatively quickly.
Compared to the outgoing model, the Rogue ride comfort is improved. Our engineers note that it feels steady and absorbent. Further, handling is responsive and instills confidence.
And that CVT pays dividends in fuel economy: In 400 miles of driving, we saw 26.5 mpg. That’s not an official test number, since the car isn’t on sale yet, and the SUV we drove was borrowed from Nissan for a fee. But this initial observation does suggest that the Rogue may get among the best fuel economy among small SUVs. Nissan claims an 18-percent improvement in fuel economy and 33 mpg on the highway from front-wheel-drive models. For comparison, the current Rogue got 22 mpg overall and 27 mpg highway in our tests.
The new Rogue will offer a suite of driver aids, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and the same 360-degree video view system with moving object detection found in some larger Nissan SUVs. An optional navigation system will be available with full voice control, live traffic and weather, and an app interface. Prices start at about $23,000 and run to almost $30,000 for a fully loaded model. The Tennessee-built 2014 Rogue goes on sale in November. The carry-over, imported Rogue Select goes on sale in January 2014, priced under $20,000. Affordable HEV Technology debuts soon in the new 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid

"This new system is not only adaptable to front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations like with the new Pathfinder Hybrid, it is completely scalable depending on vehicle design or segment," said Loing. "For example, with Pathfinder it is used with the supercharged 2.5-liter engine, 15 kW electric motor and relatively small battery pack – retaining solid SUV capabilities including standard towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. For use in an urban compact or sedan, the system might include a smaller 2.0-liter engine but a more powerful electric motor and larger battery to extend the pure electric driving range for city stop-and-go traffic use. There is complete design flexibility with this system – along with an affordability factor because it uses readily available components."

Look out San Diego, The new 2014 Nissan Altima will launch later this month! This ravishing road warrior is making the critics applaud and the competition sweat! Check why this bold new beauty is turning heads!

WE MADE A BIG DEAL, EVEN OF THE LITTLE THINGS
Detailed. Right down to the details.
Chrome's appeal lies in its deeply reflective qualities. Even distant objects look as sharp reflected in chrome as they would if you were looking at them directly. A fine point admittedly, but it shows you how much thought we put into even the smallest details, starting with our badge. Just wait 'til you see what we did to the rest.
PREMIUM SPACE. PREMIUM SPACIOUSNESS.
Luxury interior design.
We softened the edges, sculpted the lines and took the idea of open space inside. Then we quieted everything down. The result - a serene cabin of unexpected spaciousness and luxury, where premium materials combine to create an atmosphere of class that is simply a class above.

GO. OR JUST GO FARTHER.
Outstanding acceleration. Incredible efficiency.
You've got choices. You can go with Nissan's legendary 3.5-liter, 270-hp V6 that treats you to sports-car style performance even while it sips fuel at an impressive 31 MPG on the highway. [*] Or you can go with the class-leading 38 MPG highway provided by the spirited 182-hp 4-cylinder.
NEXT-GENERATION XTRONIC CVT®
The Altima's CVT virtually eliminates gears by using a single metal belt that runs around a pair of variable-diameter pulleys. Once a transmission isn't limited by fixed gears, it can operate far more effectively. So whatever your right foot asks for, CVT responds with the perfect engine speed.
ALTIMA LOVES CORNERS...
Active understeer control
Altima's Active Understeer Control system sets even the sharpest turn straight. It works by braking the inside wheels for better control through corners for a more confident feel behind the wheel.
370Z CORNERS...
Redesigned rear suspension
Altima's 370Z®-inspired multilink rear suspension has been designed to deliver instant steering response and maximum tire contact for handling that'll tackle the passing lane as easily as the carpool lane.
EUROPEAN LUXURY CAR CORNERS
ZF Sachs shocks
Altima comes equipped with ZF Sachs shock absorbers. You know, like the ones found on luxury cars from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche... Yeah, those ones.
PERFORMANCE RIPPED
Lighter. Faster. Stronger.
We gave Altima class-leading highway fuel economy [*] and powerful acceleration. How did we do it? We put it on a diet. The engine, body, and chassis are all lighter, and we slimmed down the aerodynamics. The result-hit the gas and Altima will propel you from 0-60 faster than you can say "hang on".
PUREDRIVE™
Altima is one of a select group of Nissan vehicles to wear the PUREDRIVE™ badge. PUREDRIVE™ is a key part of our commitment to achieve lower levels of CO2 emissions. The technology focuses on improving fuel efficiencies and reducing CO2 emissions. And that's something we all can smile about.
STREET SMARTS
Intelligent technology
What if your car could tell you when its tires had enough air? If it warmed itself up or cooled itself down for you without you even being there? Or turned on the headlights automatically in the rain? Would you call it smart, or simply brilliant?
CLEVER, RIGHT DOWN TO YOUR COCCYX
Zero Gravity Seats
NASA research determined the posture astronauts naturally take in the weightlessness of space. Nissan Engineering used this research to develop front seats that optimize comfort and reduce fatigue. Thanks for the tip guys.

NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF WHAT'S IMPORTANT
Advanced Drive-Assist® Display
From optional turn-by-turn navigation, to caller ID, the Advanced Drive-Assist® Display does it for you in one central location. It's specially designed to make it easy for you to get info quickly, allowing you to focus on what matters most-driving.

For all those San Diego drivers that hate parallel parking and anything else that requires the reverse gear, Nissan could one day have the car for you.
The leading Japanese carmaker recently unveiled the Pivo 2, a battery-powered concept car with a fully rotating cabin that makes going backwards obsolete, since the driver can turn to face the direction they need to go.
Its wheels also turn 90 degrees, making parking easier.
"With this easy-to-handle car, you can feel comfortable while driving," said Masahiko Tabe, senior manager of the advanced vehicle development group at Nissan Motors.
"You can go everywhere without worrying about your driving skills."
The car is as yet not for commercial sale.
The futuristic, three-seat car also comes with a robotic device that Nissan said monitors the driver's expression using censors and tailors its conversation accordingly.
The device, able to converse in English and Japanese, can help an angry driver overcome road rage or wake you up if you're prone to dozing behind the wheel, the car makers said.

YOKOHAMA, Japan - In Japan those recognized as master craftsmen are known as takumi.
At Nissan's factory in Yokohama, only four takumi are sanctioned to put their name on the company's halo vehicle, the legendary GT-R.
Izumi Shioya, Nobumitsu Gozu, Tsunemi Oyama, and leader Takumi Kurosawa -with over 100 years of combined factory experience - these four artisans hand-make the twin-turbo VR38 engines, the pride of the plant and Nissan.
Yokohama has produced over 35 million engines in Nissan's near 80-year history, and the small band recognize their historic role and responsibility.
"By putting my name on the engine block, I strongly feel I represent Nissan and am regarded as a builder of GT-R engines," says Kurosawa. "I feel a strong pride."
Automation is a staple of 21st Century car-making, but in Yokohama's controlled "clean" room, assembly of some 374 engine parts remains a hands-on experience.
"We are constantly improving our quality," says Tsunemi Ohyama of his three decades at Nissan.
"When GT-R production started in 2007, valve clearance adjustment was by machine, but now everything is by hand - measuring, tightening, measuring again. After manual checks and confirmation, only then do we deliver to our customers."
Takumi Kurosawa, whose first name shares the same pronunciation as his team of craftsmen, makes street GT-R engines as well as Super GT300 racing versions.
"If you just want to assemble GT-R engines, any skilled person can learn in three to four months, but GT-Rs are used for shopping or to drive at speeds of 320 km per hour on a racing circuit, so exact precision for each engine part is required."
"Takumi are responsible not only for engine assembly but also judging part quality and guaranteeing precision. Each GT-R engine is hand-made by a single craftsman - that's the difference from other engines."
The 3.8-liter engine, producing 545 hp, faces extensive testing on site, finally receiving the literal bond between its builder and owner.
After the up to 6-hour assembly, takumi place their own named seal on the engine block, a pledge of quality as well as kansei, consideration of its use ahead.
"The GT-R owner has a special feeling towards their car, " says GT-R builder and owner Nobumitsu Gozu.
"Although it's an older model, I also own a GT-R, so I understand the feelings of GT-R customers, and we put our souls into each engine, hoping to deliver that excitement to customers."
Izumi Shioya has built many engines in his two decades, but still aims for perfection.
"What I consider a 'perfect engine' is one that I am convinced will have the highest performance," Shioya says.
Making supercar engines is only part of the story, as Yokohama plant chief Nobuhiro Ozawa says owners want to meet their GT-R's builder.
"We sometimes receive comments from GT-R owners such as 'Who built this engine?' Some even come to the Yokohama plant wishing to meet the actual engine-maker. When they met, he said, 'Thank you for building my GT-R engine," says Ozawa.
The paper namecards of takumi do not mention their status among the world's great motor craftsmen, but an ultimate honor comes when their handiwork rolls down the line, with a small nameplate attached and the engine soon to be placed inside the GT-R, forging a seal of craftsmanship for the ages.

ROLLE, Switzerland - In a week that saw the launch of the NISMO Global Driver Exchange and subsequently Lucas Ordonez' first test in a Super GT car, Nissan today announced that he (Ordonez) along with Michael Krumm will test the Nissan Altima V8 Supercars at Winton Motor Raceway in Australia on August 12.
Krumm and Ordonez will fly to Australia for their debut V8 Supercar test, then head straight to Japan for the Suzuka 1000kms on August 17-18, Round Five of the 2013 SUPER GT Championship, where Krumm will drive his regular #24 Nissan GT-R in the GT500 class for the factory NISMO squad, and Ordonez for the NDDP outfit in the GT300 class.
The "NISMO Global Driver Exchange" announcement also included news that NISMO will enter a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in the 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour on February 7-9, 2014, with Nissan Motorsport V8 Supercar driver to lead the outfit that will be entered as the "NISMO Athlete Global Team."
"I'm very much looking forward to the V8 test," commented Krumm. "I've always watched it on TV, and I like the cars. They have a lot of power and not very big tires. From what I know from driver colleagues that have driven the car, it will be a big challenge. It's good for the driver, apparently, because you have to have a lot of different techniques. The driver plays a bigger role in the speed of the car."
"This is just a test, and this is a Nissan engine," he continued. "I've driven many Nissan engines before, so this is a chance for me to see how it compares to the other engines worldwide. I haven't driven a race car in Australia, so I'm really looking forward to that. The Bathurst 1000 is a big race. Something that everyone wants to do at least once in their lifetime. It would be nice, but first of all, I have to drive the Altima V8 Supercar and see if I feel comfortable."
Lucas Ordonez has one of the busiest schedules he has ever known at the moment. Just back from Japan, he is about to compete in the Spa 24 Hours before the next chapter of his incredible racing career takes him to Australia and then back again to Japan.
"Most of my racing has been in Europe, so to have the chance to drive a V8 Supercar is amazing," said Ordonez. "It's another step in my career. I have followed the V8s from Europe, and with Nissan entering in the championship, it's amazing to hear the news that I'm testing the Altima V8 Supercar. I really can't wait for it. I know it's a tough car to drive with no electronic systems, no traction control, but it's a proper racing car with a lot of power. I have spoken to some guys who have driven the cars before, and they've told me that the cars are tricky to drive and tricky to make fast. They say you can drive them over the curbs quite aggressively, and the way you enter the corner has to change to make less wheel spin, because the car has a lot of power. This is a great chance of me to learn, have fun, and hopefully one day compete in the Bathurst 1000."
"Part of our program to continue to globalize Nissan Motorsport is to get some of our international drivers to sample the brand-new Altima V8," explained Nissan's Director of Global Motorsport, Darren Cox. "It's a great opportunity for these drivers to try a different form of motor racing, but also for us to shine a light on the excellent work that is being done by Nissan Motorsport in Australia."

Nissan announced the introduction of Nissan Mobility Assist, which aims to support the mobility needs of physically disabled customers. Nissan will offer up to a $1,000 reimbursement to have qualifying adaptive equipment installed on new Nissan vehicles to accommodate a physically disabled driver or passenger.
For existing leases through Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC), the following types of adaptive equipment have been pre-approved: hand controls, wheelchair/scooter lift, left foot accelerator and turning automotive seating. The adaptive equipment must be installed by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)-registered installer after the vehicle has been retailed and within six months of purchase or lease from an authorized Nissan dealer.
"Nissan Mobility Assist allows us to further broaden the appeal of an already diverse product lineup and truly live up to our corporate motto of 'innovation and excitement for everyone,'" said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing. "By helping defray the costs of medically necessary upfits, we're increasing the mobility of our customers nationwide."
Requests for reimbursement must be made within 90 days of the equipment installation by a NHTSA certified installer. Requests may be made via the "Nissan Mobility Form" online and applicable claim documentation may be submitted via fax at (888) 912-2409, or via email atnissanmobilityassist@biworldwide.com. Reimbursement will then be provided to the customer within six to ten weeks after all of the required paperwork has been received by Nissan.

As the all-new 2014 Versa Note, the global follow-up to Nissan's highly popular Versa hatchback, gets set to do battle in the increasingly competitive U.S. entry-level subcompact segment, it has the numbers on its side. Here are just a few examples:

1. 31, 35, 40. Leading, as in class-leading, the new Versa Note's standout attributes is its 40 mpg highway fuel economy.* Note also offers best-in-class** 31 city mpg and 35 mpg combined city/highway fuel efficiency.
2. Double-down. Of all the numbers surrounding Versas Note's smooth, responsive powerplant - 1.6 liters, 109 horsepower, 107 lb-ft of torque, 4 valves per cylinder - perhaps the most impressive is the 57 percent smaller fuel droplet size provided by the standard dual fuel injector system (versus conventional single injector systems). The pair of smaller injectors delivers a finer spray and wider injection of fuel to help achieve more complete combustion.
3. Leave the lineman on the curb. More weight is a good thing if you are a player in the National Football League, but not so great when designing a vehicle for fuel economy and driving responsiveness. The 2014 Versa Note features an estimated 300-pound weight reduction versus the previous generation design. It's the equivalent of kicking an NFL lineman out of the front passenger seat. Just hope he finds another ride.
4. Squash the competition (and drag). Lose the lineman, gain a squash player. In keeping with the sports theme, the unique side view of the new Versa Note body is marked by a highly distinctive character line.
Inspired by the trajectory of a squash ball hitting a wall, bouncing on the floor and returning to the player, this "rebound path" line projects the dynamic energy of Versa Note, whether on the road or standing still. The squash line is just one of many carefully crafted aerodynamic elements - including a large front spoiler, kick-up roof and underbody shaping - that gives Versa Note a coefficient of drag of 0.298 (CVT-equipped models). Game on.
5. Shutter Your Mouth. Among the many Versa Note class-exclusive*** features is the available Active Grille Shutter, the first ever used on a Nissan vehicle and the only one offered in the segment. By reducing the amount of air entering the engine compartment (generally at speeds above 20 miles per hour), it helps reduce aerodynamic drag - contributing to the overall nine percent lower coefficient of drag versus the previous Versa hatchback design.
6. Vented, Not Venti. Look closely at the new Versa Note's 370Z-style "boomerang" taillights and you'll see something quite unusual - a series of four thin openings on the flared outer lip. A world's first production design, the vented taillights help reduce wind turbulence around the back of the vehicle. The resulting smaller vortex helps keep the rear of the Versa Note clean, improving rear lamp visibility in bad weather.
7.Heads Up, Legs Out. Of all the best-in-class*** ways to judge the new Versa Note by, here are a couple you can get your head (and legs) around - the most front row headroom at 40.8 inches and the longest rear seat legroom at 38.3 inches, which is nearly four inches (3.7 inches) longer than the nearest competitor (34.6 inches). And just so that ample front room doesn't go to the driver and passenger's head, Versa Note offers available heated front seats to take care of the other extreme.
8.Turn Up the Volume. One of car designers' greatest challenges has always been making a small car big. The all-new Versa Note takes the previous generation design and stretches the envelope inside - while maintaining Versa's compact footprint. On the same wheelbase as the previous generation, the 2014 Versa Note features ample cargo volume of 18.8 cubic feet (rear seat up), best-in-class*** passenger room of 94.1 cubic feet and total interior volume of 112.9 cubic feet.
One other thing, to make it easier to enter and exit the spacious interior, there's a 20 percent increase in the degree of door openings (from the prior generation).
9. The Great Divide ('N Hide). If the incredible lifestyle flexibility provided by the new Versa Note's large, accessible hatchback - "Your Door to More" - wasn't enough, there's one more special feature designed to assist owners' active lifestyles. The innovative Divide-N-Hide® Adjustable Floor balances the sometimes conflicting needs of a flat cargo floor and maximized cargo space. The system's large split-folding floor board can be used to create a flat cargo area floor (with the standard 60/40 rear seat folded down), or to provide a hidden cargo storage area. With the floorboard tucked away (you never have to remove it from the vehicle unless you want to) it opens up a deep cargo well for carrying taller or bulkier items.
10. Bird is the word. Yet another affordable, class-exclusive*** technology found only on the new Versa Note in the segment is Nissan's advanced Around View® Monitor. The system utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the vehicle to provide a "bird's eye" virtual 360° view of objects around the vehicle. Offered as part of the SL Tech Package, it provides additional selectable split-screen close-ups of the front, rear and curb views, helping the driver maneuver the car in or out of tight spots.
11. Connect the spots. When looking for the hottest parking spots in town in which to try out the Around View® Monitor, Versa Note's advanced NissanConnect? with Navigation System makes it easy - thanks to its POIs powered by Google™ and Google™ Send-to-Car features. With more than five million points of interest at the ready, it's easy to find or send directions to clubs, restaurants or other locations.
But the affordable NissanConnect? with Navigation System doesn't stop there. It also includes a 5.8-inch color touch-screen display, NavTraffic and NavWeather real-time advisories (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately), Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Pandora® radio capability (iPhone® only). And, when it comes to navigation, the system also incudes warnings for curves, speed limit information and an eco route setting.
12.Easy Come, Easy Fill. While every 2014 Versa Note comes with a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), the SL Package adds Nissan's reassuring Easy Fill Tire Alert system - which takes the guesswork out of filling a low tire with a beep of the horn and flash of the lights when you've reached the correct pressure.
13. $13,990. The last number might be the most impressive - the 2014 Versa Note's starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (M.S.R.P.) of just $13,990 USD****. Following the standard set by the high-value Versa sedan, the new Versa Note offers more value on all grades than the previous Versa hatchback (model year 2012).
